fissijo @ 9:05pm: So tired!

It's that terrible day of the year again, colleague Christmas dinner at work. Went in at 6am to get set up, which is a feat in itself!
It went the most smoothly it has EVER and I think the food went down well!
Very pleased it went well, but even more pleased it's over for another year!
So YAY!
yagahara @ 8:19pm: Eco-frenzy.

Hybrid and electric cars are becoming more popular on our roads, like the famous Toyota Prius or the new BMW Series 7* available also in hybrid option, in addition, in a special color available only for hybrids. 6,8l of average consumption is impressive in such a big car, but let's ask ourselves a question -- is this the way we should go?
Global warming is a fact. But what really causes the global warming? Reducing CO2 emission in cars is definitely a good thing, not only from a perspective of the climate change, but also because of much simpler reason -- clean air.
EU set high restrictions on exhaust gases. Good thing you may say. Not really. If you look at these restrictions you will notice they only refer to monotonous movement. While accelerating the throttle is wide open and restrictions mean nothing. We all want dynamic engines, no? So actually modern "eco" car pollutes the air more than, for example, LPG-powered gasoline engine or well-tuned diesel from before the "eco-insanity".
Maybe we should focus on purifying fuels from pollutions like NOx, SOx, rather than pursuing unreachable [and not exactly all that strict] CO2 emission limits?
The easiest way now to really reduce CO2 emission and fuel consumption is smart design. Low rolling resistance, elastic engine, well-sequenced gearbox... One of many things that make car use less fuel which means less pollution. You'll be surprised how much well-designed aerodynamics reduces fuel consumption, see the already mentioned BMW Series 7 with standard engine. Simple things like rims that cause less air resistance are the key in the design of the new BMW limousine.
End of a random eco-rant written while sitting in a tram.
*no, I do not work for BMW. Though I'd love to! :P
